Transmission durations

Calculating transmission duration for GOES 300/1200 bps messages provides the transmission durations, calculated from the number of bytes in a message. GOES self-timed-message maximum data bytes and assigned time-slot duration provides the maximum data bytes for an assigned time slot duration. Users need to convert the data points they want to send to number of bytes.

Calculating transmission duration for GOES 300/1200 bps messages

Transmit type Transmission duration (seconds)
(where N = number of data bytes in a message)
Self-timed, 300 bps (137 + (N × 4))/150
Random, 300 bps (137 + (N × 4))/150
Self-timed, 1200 bps (223 + (N × 4))/600
Random, 1200 bps (223 + (N × 4))/600
