Lapses

The Lapses parameter affects memory allocation for lapses in a data table. The default value works for most use cases.

A Lapse is any discontinuity of records in a data table, such as from a loss of power. When the parameter value is positive (for example, 10), the data logger saves memory space by not timestamping each record. The table header has information that allows timestamps to be calculated during data collection. When a lapse occurs, the data logger will add a special block of data to allow adjustment of timestamps for the time gap. For technical information, see Lapses.

Entering a zero will cause every record in the data table to be time stamped, which requires an additional 16 bytes per record. A value of zero is recommended for a data table with an interval and conditional output.

If a negative value is entered, the data logger will not adjust the timestamps of records due to lapses. A negative value is not recommended on modern data loggers.
